BASEMENTS

Basement Renovations & Remodels

Finishing your basement is often the most cost-effective way to increase the value of your home. Basements that are dry and already have a concrete slab can easily be turned into additional living space for less than 1/3 the cost of putting an addition on your home.

Quality of Life

Not only is a basement remodel a good investment, but it can substantially increase the quality of life while you live in your home. Finished basements offer a great retreat from the summer heat, a place to park rambunctious kids, a perfect place for a “man cave”, or home office, among many other uses.

Unique Challenges

Vermont Construction offers basement renovation packages that address all of the unique challenges of turning your basement into living space.

The first step in finishing your basement is making sure that your basement is dry and will remain dry. Inspecting the foundation and systems for diverting water away from the building is critical.

Even dry basements have higher moisture levels than the rest of your home. It is important to select materials and specify systems that can endure these conditions. Picking flooring and insulation for the walls in a basement requires knowledge of which products are best suited for these conditions.

Basements often house the operating systems for a building, and designing a space which maintains access to those systems is important.  Drop ceilings for access to plumbing and heating systems, access panels in walls, and properly housed utilities, among other considerations are important.
